Sir Christian Bonington CBE Expedition Leader will be 65. - Britain's best known mountaineer who has visited Nepal on many occasions making the first ascents of: Annapurna II, 1960 Nuptse - 1961 Drang Nag Ri 1995. He also led successful expeditions to: The South Face of Annapurna 1970 The South West Face of Everest 1975 He climbed Everest with Arne Næss Norwegian Expedition in 1985. |
| Daniel Bonington, Chris's elder son, aged 32, left St. Bees School in Cumbria at the age of 16, moved down to London where he worked in the music industry as a labels manager with an independent distributor. He met Jude in the Autumn of 1993 and they married in May 1994. They decided to move to Australia in 1997. They are based on Sydney, Jude's home town, he works as a bush regenorator. He climbed Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, with Chris in 1992 and proved to be a natural at altitude climbing. |
| Gerald Bonington Chris's half brother, aged 46 is a senior executive working for Norsk Hydro. He lives in Caldbeck, the village close to Chris's home and they climb together on a regular basis in the Lake District. Gerald also went with Chris to Kilimanjaro and has once been to the Himalayas when he climbed Island Peak, in Nepal. |
| James Bonington (22), Chris's nephew, is a law student at Liverpool Univeristy. |
| Judith Bonington (30), Daniel's wife was brought up in Sydney Australia, has a degree in psychology and came over to Europe in 1993, planning to stay for the eighteen months allowed for a work permit. Meeting Daniel changed that. She is a keen trekker and works for Sony Australia. |

| Dr. Rupert Bennett aged 32 is Chris's GP, a keen climber who is medical officer of the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team and is Medical Director of the Cherry Tree Children's Trust whose main activity is in Nepal. He has worked on their project to build a hospital in the Langtang Valley. |
