50th Anniversary Trek Reunion July 2011

scroll up/down for more

I had a great weekend when some of my old friends from our 50th Anniversary Trek round the North side of Annapurna came up to stay at Denton House, a delightful Guest House in Hesket Newmarket right next door to the best pub in the World (I’m biased) The Old Crown (you can google them both).

Jon Latter (far left pic below) a 777 pilot with BA, flew up in his microlite and gave me a flight when I picked him up from Kirkbride Airfield.  I took the picture above to show the route we took on Saturday,  starting from Mungrisedale, swinging up right by Bowscale Fell, across Bannerdale and then up the ridge leading to the summit of Blencathra.  We descended down the valley back to Mungrisdale but you can also do a really nice finish over Souther Fell, just below the red line.

Summit achieved – wild and windy, but what a great day – then down to Mungrisedale for a pint at the Mill Inn and back to Hesket Newmarket for a great meal that night at the Old Crown.  I recommend the Rib Eye Steak washed down with “Doris’s 90th”
